Alex Kidd
Now being labelled as the biggest next generation nutter in Hard Dance, Alex Kidd is well on his way to Global Domination with his unique, dance floor destroying sets.
He is one of a few UK based DJs that supports a European Hard Trance & Hard style sound. But defining his sound is a difficult topic that many have attempted & FAILED to address. An Onslaught of Audio Anarchy might be a fair attempt! But when questioned Alex says his style is predominantly European Hard Trance, with elements of Hard Dance and Hard Style & a splattering of Techno, just for good measure! This is all reflected in the wild and outrageous shows that he consistently delivers. His insane technical ability shines through as he battles and chops his way through growling beats and soaring riffs to stand high and mighty over all others on the bill, gaining the respect of other artists and amazed crowds the world over.
The Alex Kidd Experience cannot be fully appreciated on a mix CD. That Kidd is a true showman behind the decks with his constant trickery of the mixer and wild antics that whip the crowd into frenzy, not just confined to the DJ booth - Don't be surprised to see The Kidd crawling up the speakers to hype up the vibe, whipping out (a very plastic!) Chainsaw or taking a masked crowd dive - Whatever turns up the atmosphere and takes the party to the next level!
Alex Kidd has been around so long, it is difficult to believe he's still in his early twenties! Before the tender age of 20 Alex had achieved a lot more than most do in their careers!
Drawing inspiration from Drum and Bass legends like Goldie and Techno pioneers such as Sven Vath, an early insight into the industry was gained from his job at Spin Inn records in his home town of Manchester. From securing his residency at Goodgreef at their opening night & still remaining a resident today, word soon escaped & before he knew it, The Kidd was DJing all over Britain. With him being a regular fixture at the Bowlers raves that were hosting partys for up to 5000 revellers, Alex was thrown in at the deep end from day dot. Not content with just entertaining his compatriots, Alex soon secured a sell out tour to Taiwan, which was an experience to say the least & regular visits to Ibiza, appearing at Judgement Sunday at the Ibizan SuperClub - Eden.
2004 saw Alex really catapult into the big time, with major bookings at HQ Amsterdam, Inside Out, Dance Academy, Wildchild, Bionic, Polysexual, Sundissential & Garlands, followed by major UK Festival appearances at Creamfields in the Cream/Goodgreef Main Arena, Helter Skelter & Antiworld Indoor Festivals & the 7000 capacity HQXL @ Amsterdam Docklands, culminating in being tipped by Yoji Biomehanika in the 2004 Top 100 DJ Mag Poll as One to watch for the future! & was also cited in both 2004 & 2005 as being a Mixmag Future Hero...It would seem that 'future' has become Alex's 'present'. Mixmag regularly feature phone interviews and a highlight of what Alex has been up to and will continue their support for him.
Alex really cemented his place amongst the bright lights of the Hard Dance Industry in 2005, not just nationwide but all over the world - in what has been an extremely busy & productive year. It started with a tour of Australia where Da Kiddsta demolished nightspots in Sydney, Adelaide & the Gold Coast amongst others. Alex has since twice returned Down Under including touring with Lab 4 on their sell out Album tour touching down in Melbourne's amazing 3000 capacity Metro & will be soon be packing his Bucket & Stylus for Mr Kidd's next tour of Australia in 2006.
But that was just really the start of what has been the most hectic & enjoyable year of Alex's career to date. Keeping on the worldwide theme That Kidd is now regularly playing in Amsterdam, working in close quarters with the HQ/UDC camp. Highlight being the legendary HQ in Milkyway and not forgetting HQXL at Amsterdam Docklands in front of 7000 PEOPLE.
2005 was also the year that Alex really made a breakthrough on The White Isle, cutting & mixing his way to being the most popular DJ on the biggest success story on the White Island in 2005 - Tidy vs Euphoria @ Es Paradis, Ibiza. (It was Tidys debut season in Ibiza). He enjoyed guesting 3 times including a now legendary 3 hour set, playing the closing 3 hours of Tidy's closing party.
Alex also played in Hamburg, Germany on two occasions, recently headlining the worldwide renowned Tunnel Club's 12th Birthday Rave & Mr Kidd will be in cohorts with all at Tunnel next year on compilations/remixes & yet more DJ appearances!!!
Domestically, Alex Kidd has been the length & breadth of the country week in-week out, including both Goodgreef's birthday's at Cream's old stomping ground, Nation & regularly appearing for Goodgreef in Yarm & their inimitable Manchester Rendezvous at the Manchester Academy. Not forgetting the Manchester Evening News Arena & NEC sell out 10,000 crowds for Godskitchen vs Goodgreef. Festival appearances in 05 included the Kidd billed on the same line up as Paul Van Dyk and Roni Size at the Escape in The Park Festival, Wales.causing 5000 in the Sundissential tent to go ballistic in the summer sun.
Up until 2005, London was proving one of the toughest nut to crack, not just for Alex but for the majority of Northern based Hard Dance DJ's, The Kidd has really emerged on this ever expanding scene becoming a London Hard Dance Hero - Frantic's new superstar with top end billing and peaktime sets for the main room at massive sellout events such as their 8TH BIRTHDAY, Hardcore Heaven meets Frantic at Camden Palace, More, Blast v Convergence and Genesis & we promise you that Alex is going to be a massive part of Frantic, not just for 2006, but for many years to come.
Aswell as huge Frantic support, Alex is becoming a Wildchild fave, playing at Heaven and also at their birthday at SE1..AND IS MORE THAN READY TO TEAR UP LONDON AGAIN AFTER LIFTING THE ROOF FOR THEIR MASSIVE BOXING DAY EVENT IN 2005 which has gained him even further support with confirmed Wildchild dates for 06. The capital exposure isnt complete there either; London visits for Heat's birthday at the Brixton Academy & the odd set for our friends at RIOT have cemented his place as the boy wonder
With residencies now at not only Goodgreef but also BIG in the East Midlands & Tranzaction in Truro, Cornwall where he has built a cult following and a loyal fan base. With Mr Kidd regularly appearing at all the top events and clubs throughout 06 including Dance Academy, Sundissential, Slinky. Big, Scream, Destruktion and Vibealite to name but a few.this is just the start of big things to come.
Aswell as ripping up the Butlins big reunion weekender, Alex is also now a regular on the Tidy Weekender roster! With appearances at both the Blackpool & Wales mash up's hes listed on the flyers alongside the whos who of Hard Dance!! Who said a DJ's life was an easy one???!!
But the talents of Alex Kidd are in no way confined to the DJ Box alone. Alex has been the A&R manager for the hugely successful Goodgreef record label since its beginning, putting him at the forefront of what's happening now & has mixed all 3 of the Goodgreef Albums, including the 3rd album with Yoji Biomehanika which included a huge UK tour alongside Yoji to help promote the Album. Whilst touring they have built a good friendship and share many opinions on the music & the support Yoji has for Alex is seen time and time again when Alex warms up for the Japanese legend or indeed carries on from where Mr Biomehanika has left off...
Alex writes his own monthly HARD TRANCE PAGE column on Tidy.com (check www.tidy.com). For all gig news, gossip, reviews etc. This is quite a prestigious duty to hold considering the millions of hard dance fans that are globally attracted to the industries leading brand and website.
Radio sets in 05 have included Melbournes biggest dance show Kiss FM , LIVE GUEST MIX, Galaxy mixes for Paul Kershaw and also Nick Riley's and Andi Durrant's shows.
Also Alex has Mixed it up for Judge Jules Radio 1 international show - broadcast to Asia and the Far East. Also numerous shout out/phone ins/usual suspects and interviews on Radio 1 throughout 2005. Lest we forget Internet radio stations that keep it real and underground..
